Spalted Maple Hollow Form, click for a larger image.

This hollow form started life as a boring looking chunk of wood, once I started cutting into it the spalting (fungus growth which occures in a wet environment) popped out at me and I knew that I had a really nice piece of wood. This piece is 7" in diameter and 3 1/2" high and has been hollowed through a 1 1/4" hole. The finish is a water based poly.
