A continuation of some of my favorite pieces that have found their way into someone's home.

Maple Potpourri Bowl, click for a larger image.

Maple potpourri bowl. This Maple bowl has it all. It has a 'patch' of curly sapwood which is outlined with a layer of spalt separating it from the beautiful brown of the main bowl. This bowl is 5" wide and 2" high and has a removable pewter top with a hummingbird feeding on flowers motif. The outside is finished with Tung oil and polished to a high sheen and the inside is left natural to blend with your favorite potpourri.

Walnut Natural Edge Bowl, click for a larger image.

Walnut natural edge bowl.  I call this one 'stormy night'.  This bowl is mostly sapwood which is a yellow-white color with the dark walnut color at the base.  The whitish streaks you see just below the rim are the rays and the dark in the sides are the 'storm clouds'.  The rays feel almost like they are etched but it is the way the wood dried.  I almost sanded it smooth but it is so much more dramatic the way it is that I had to leave it.

Walnut hollow vessel, click for a larger image.

This hollow vessel is made from a beautiful slab of Walnut that includes sections from the crotch area where a branch met the trunk.  The branch had broken off which left the void in the side of the vessel.  This type of grain creates a pattern that defies definition.  This piece is 7" in diameter and 4 1/4" high.  It is finished with Tung oil and a coating of lacquer then waxed to give it that nice shine.

Maple Burl hollow vessel, click for a larger image.

This hollow vessel was made from a Maple burl and finished with Tung oil and polished to a soft satin sheen.  It is nearly 7" in diameter,  3" high and has a wall thickness of 3/16".  The voids in this piece really make it a showpiece.

Maple salt mill, click for a larger image.

Curly Maple Salt mill.  This salt mill is nearly 9" high and is finished with a Tung oil/varnish mix then waxed and buffed to a glossy sheen.  The mechanism is made of ceramic so it will not rust because of the corrosive nature of the salt.  The interior of the mill is left natural so the salt will not become contaminated by the finish.

Zebrawood Pepper mill, click for a larger image.

Zebrawood Pepper mill.  This mill is 7" high and finished with Tung oil, waxed and buffed for that luxurious feel.  Zebrawood is a beautiful straight grained wood from Africa that takes a nice polish and makes for a dramatic peppermill. This one has a simple but elegant flowing design.

Maple Crouch Platter.  This shallow bowl or platter is 7 3/4"  wide and 1 1/2" high and finished with Tung oil and is signed and numbered.  The dark part is where there was a branch in the trunk which created the beautiful design, click on the picture for a larger view.

Rimmed Maple Bowl, click for a larger image.

Curly Maple rimmed bowl.  This bowl has a beautiful curling pattern running through it that really shines.  This bowl is nearly 8" wide and is 2 1/4 deep, the bowl is hollowed out under the beaded rim giving it the illusion that it has been added - rest assured that it was turned this way and is all one piece of wood.  The bowl is finished with Tung oil then polished and waxed to a glossy sheen.
