This is the piece of burl that the bowl was made from.  It is roughly 3 to 5 inches high and 8 inches wide at the widest point. Here I have drilled a hole in the top to create a flat spot for a place to put the headstock and I am beginning to shape the bottom of the bowl.
A view of the bottom of the bowl being shaped.  Once the bottom is shaped it will be reversed and held by a tenon on the bottom and the inside will be hollowed out. This is close to the final outside profile.  Next it will be sanded and finished on the outside then the inside will be hollowed out.
Here the outside profile is completed, sanded and finished.  Next we start hollowing the inside. Here I have started hollowing the inside
